JAMMU — February 09, 2026:-In a major operational breakthrough, the CID Counter-Intelligence (CI) Jammu has arrested Hilal Ahmed Bhat, a long-absconding operative involved in a high-profile Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) racket. Bhat, originally from Poshpora, Kupwara, and currently residing in Raipur Domana, Jammu, had been evading the legal process for a decade.
The arrest follows an absconder warrant issued under Section 512 CrPC by the Honorable Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu, which also named his father, Mohd Assad Ullah Bhat, as a co-accused. Both individuals were wanted in connection with FIR No. 05/2007, involving severe charges under Sections 489A, 489B, and 489C of the RPC for the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit currency.
The successful apprehension was the result of a swift and well-coordinated mission by the Fugitive Tracking Team of CID (CI) Jammu. Acting on specific, actionable intelligence, the team tracked Hilal Ahmed Bhat to his current location in Jammu, ending his ten-year streak of evading trial.
Following the arrest, the accused was produced before the Honorable Court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. This operation highlights the meticulous investigative work required to track fugitives who deliberately hide across different districts to escape prosecution.
This successful crackdown reaffirms the zero-tolerance policy of CID Jammu and Kashmir regarding FICN operatives and their supporting ecosystems. The agency remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantling counterfeit and terror-finance structures, ensuring that fugitives involved in economic or national security offenses are brought to justice.
By neutralizing such operatives, the Counter-Intelligence wing continues to safeguard the integrity of the national economy and break the back of illicit financial networks operating within the Union Territory.
