Mughal Road and Sinthan Top Routes Shut Down Following Fresh Snowfall; Travel Advisory Issued
SRINAGAR, JANUARY 23, 2026 — Severe winter weather has forced the total closure of the Mughal Road and the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244) highway for January 24, 2026.
Fresh snowfall over the high-altitude passes has made these vital links impassable for all types of vehicular traffic. Similarly, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road remains shut due to significant snow accumulation.
Traffic authorities have issued a high-priority advisory, warning citizens against attempting travel on these mountain routes until the snow is cleared and stability is restored.
The public is directed to stay updated via the J&K Traffic Police’s official social media handles and contact the PCR Kishtwar or relevant TCUs for real-time status reports.
With more precipitation predicted by the MeT Department, these interior routes are expected to remain closed until further notice.
