DHARCHULA, January 23, 2026 — Against the backdrop of sub-zero temperatures and increasingly hostile terrain, the Indian Army continues to maintain an unwavering vigil along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Major General IS Gill, Chief of Staff (COS), HQ Uttar Bharat, recently conducted a comprehensive operational review of forward areas in the Kumaon Sector, visiting strategic locations including Dharchula, Gunji, Navidang, and Jollingkong.
During the visit, Maj Gen Gill assessed the current security posture and the progress of forward area infrastructure development, which are critical to maintaining an edge in the high-altitude region.
The visit served to reinforce the “iron resolve” of the troops stationed at these remote outposts, where there is zero margin for error due to the extreme environmental and tactical conditions.
Maj Gen Gill commended the soldiers for their relentless vigilance and high morale, noting that their presence remains a steadfast deterrent along the border.
As the Indian Army strengthens its defensive capabilities in the sector, such high-level reviews ensure that personnel are well-equipped and strategically prepared to handle any challenges posed by both the terrain and external security threats.
