JAMMU, January 23, 2026 — In the wake of relentless rainfall and heavy snowfall across the Jammu Division, the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) is working on a war footing to normalize the region’s power supply.
The severe weather conditions caused an unprecedented drop in power demand, hitting a low of 140 MW at approximately 4:00 AM, a sharp decline from the average load of 1070 MW.
Through sustained efforts, JPDCL has successfully enhanced the running load to 564 MW, effectively restoring nearly 52% of the overall power supply as of the latest update.
Restoration efforts in District Jammu have been primarily hindered by windstorms and fallen trees damaging High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) lines, while hilly and remote regions face challenges due to snow-bound inaccessibility.
Major affected areas include: Poonch & Rajouri: Mendhar, Mandi, Surankote, Kotrankka, and Thanamandi.
Doda & Kishtwar: Bhaderwah, Marmat, Paddar, and Bhalessa.
Ramban & Reasi: Patnitop, Batote, Gool, Mahore, and Chassana.
As of 12:00 noon, 92 out of 181 sub-transmission lines (66/33 kV) and 568 out of 1373 distribution feeders (11 kV) have been successfully restored. JPDCL has mobilized adequate manpower and machinery to address major damages and assures the public that all possible efforts are being made to achieve full normalization across all affected districts at the earliest.
