Heroic Snow Rescue: Udhampur Police Save 12 Lives in High-Altitude Basantgarh Operation
UDHAMPUR, January 23, 2026 — Demonstrating exceptional bravery under life-threatening weather conditions, the Udhampur Police successfully executed a high-stakes rescue mission to save 12 citizens stranded in the treacherous Chochru Galla heights.
The group, which included vulnerable women and children, was caught in a fierce snowstorm in the upper ridges of the Basantgarh area, facing sub-zero temperatures and zero visibility.
Acting on an urgent distress signal received at the Sang Police Post, a specialized team led by Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed—under the direct supervision of DySP PC Basantgarh Charanjeet Singh and SHO PS Basantgarh PSI Rohin Chalotra—immediately launched a search and rescue effort into the heart of the storm.
The rescue team demonstrated remarkable physical endurance, trekking for kilometers through deep snow and heavy fog to locate the shivering group. Once reached, all 12 individuals were carefully navigated back to the safety of the Sang Police Post.
Following their arrival, the survivors were immediately provided with warm meals, secure shelter, and necessary medical evaluations to ensure no one suffered lasting effects from the extreme exposure.
This successful operation underscores the vital role of the local police as first responders in Jammu and Kashmir’s most challenging terrains, prioritizing human life above all else.
