Udhampur Police Arrest Bootlegger in Sudhmahadev; Illicit Liquor Seized

UDHAMPUR, January 15, 2026: In a continued effort to curb the menace of illegal spirits, a police team from Police Post Sudhmahadev apprehended a bootlegger during a routine patrol in the Marothi area.

The operation unfolded when officers noticed a suspicious individual carrying a gallon container; upon seeing the police party, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly chased down and detained. A subsequent search of the container revealed five liters of illicit “desi” liquor intended for unauthorized sale.

The accused has been identified as Parveen Singh, son of Kedarnath and a resident of Marothi, Tehsil Chenani. Following the recovery, authorities registered FIR No. 05/2026 at the Chenani Police Station under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act.

Udhampur Police have launched a further investigation to trace the source of the illicit spirit and have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a drug- and alcohol-free environment in the District.
