JAMMU, JANUARY 13, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against the narcotics trade, the Jammu Police South Zone has successfully arrested three drug peddlers and recovered approximately 70 grams of heroin (commonly known as ‘chitta’) during two separate operations.
Under the overall supervision of SSP Jammu and a dedicated team from the Gandhi Nagar Police Station, these operations were part of a sustained crackdown aimed at dismantling local drug supply chains.
The first success came on January 4, when a team led by PSI Maan Singh intercepted Som Nath, a resident of Tarn Taran, Punjab, at a strategic checkpoint.
A personal search led to the recovery of 30 grams of heroin, resulting in the registration of FIR No. 02/2026 under the NDPS Act.
Following the initial arrest, the investigation widened as Som Nath’s disclosures led police to a second suspect, Manav Sonte of Valmiki Colony, Jammu. Upon his arrest, an additional 10 grams of the narcotic substance were seized.
A separate operation on January 8 saw the Nehru Market Police Post and PSI Nadeem Akram intercept another individual, Harpreet Singh (alias Bablu) from Ramgarh, Samba.
During this vehicle check, officers recovered another 30 grams of heroin, leading to FIR No. 09/2026. These back-to-back operations demonstrate the heightened vigilance of the South Zone units in monitoring transit routes and urban hotspots.
The Jammu Police South Zone has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking, emphasizing that these arrests are part of a broader mission to protect the youth and maintain public order.
Authorities continue to urge citizens to come forward with any information regarding suspicious activities to help eradicate the drug menace. Further investigations are currently underway to trace the original source of the seized heroin and identify any larger distribution networks operating across district and state borders.
