Udhampur Police Apprehend Inter-District Drug Peddler; Heroin Seized at Tikri Checkpoint
UDHAMPUR, January 5, 2026: In a significant breakthrough against the narcotics trade, the Udhampur Police successfully intercepted an inter-district drug peddler and recovered a quantity of heroin during a routine traffic operation at Tikri.
The arrest took place as law enforcement continues to intensify its vigil against the movement of illegal substances across district lines.
Acting on a tip-off or routine surveillance, a police team stationed at Tikri signaled a Glanza taxi (registration number JK01AW-4419) to stop for inspection. The vehicle was reportedly traveling on the national highway from Jammu toward Srinagar.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers identified a single passenger whose suspicious behavior prompted a more thorough investigation and questioning by the on-site team.
The individual was identified as Bilal Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Qadir Mir and a resident of Lasjan, Srinagar. A meticulous personal search of the suspect led to the recovery of 9.19 grams of heroin.
Following the discovery, the Udhampur Police immediately took the contraband into possession and apprehended the suspect.In response to the recovery, a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 05/2026 at the Rehambal Police Station.
The accused faces charges under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. While the suspect remains in custody, police officials have confirmed that a deeper investigation is currently underway to trace the origin of the drugs and identify any potential links to a larger trafficking network.
