JAMMU, JANUARY 04, 2026: In a landmark achievement for higher education and youth leadership in the Union Territory, two faculty members of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) have been commissioned as Flying Officers in the NCC Air Wing.
Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor B. N. Tripathi and the mentorship of Dean Students’ Welfare Sudhakar Diwedi, Sabahat Gazal and Susheel Sharma successfully completed an intensive two-month Pre-Commissioning Course for the Senior Division at Air Force Station Tambaram, Chennai.
Their commissioning marks a historic first for the region, as they represent the first senior batch of Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) from Jammu and Kashmir to join the Air Wing.Throughout the rigorous training program, which ran from late October to late December 2025, the SKUAST-Jammu representatives demonstrated exceptional leadership and academic prowess among officer cadets from across the country.
Sabahat Gazal was officially adjudged “Best in Academics,” while Susheel Sharma earned the prestigious “Best in Overall Merit” award. These accolades highlight the high caliber of faculty at SKUAST-Jammu and bring significant prestige to the 01 J&K Air Squadron NCC, Udhampur.
The University administration has hailed this achievement as a testament to its commitment to nation-building and the holistic development of its staff and students.
By integrating military discipline and specialized air wing training into the academic environment, SKUAST-Jammu continues to strengthen its leadership role within the National Cadet Corps.
This milestone is expected to inspire a new generation of students to pursue excellence in the NCC Air Wing, further enhancing the University’s contribution to the defense and service sectors of the nation.
