J&K Secures ₹1,430 Crore Central Grant for Disaster Mitigation and Infrastructure Reconstruction

Jammu | December 30, 2025The Central Government, acting on recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has approved a massive allocation of over ₹1,430 crore for Jammu and Kashmir to spearhead disaster mitigation and the reconstruction of public infrastructure.

This financial boost follows a “severe” calamity declaration by an Inter-Ministerial Central Team after recent natural disasters, including cloudbursts, impacted the region. The funds are earmarked for the large-scale restoration of damaged public assets such as roads, power grids, and water supply systems, while also integrating long-term measures to enhance the Union Territory’s resilience against future environmental threats.

During a high-level review meeting, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo assessed the progress of key financial initiatives, including the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) and the SNA SPARSH system.

Principal Secretary of Finance, Santosh D. Vaidya, reported that J&K has already achieved significant milestones, with 222 projects across 27 departments approved under the current capital investment framework.

Out of an initial release of ₹944 crore, the UT has already utilized ₹758 crore, prompting the Central Government to approve additional funding based on this strong performance in infrastructure development and fiscal reform.The review also highlighted major breakthroughs in specialized sectors, including the approval of ₹200 crore for the establishment of “Unity Malls” in Srinagar and Jammu.

Furthermore, J&K received ₹100 crore for mining sector reforms following the notification of a new Minor Mineral Policy and ₹60 crore for its successful implementation of Digital Public Infrastructure in agriculture.

Chief Secretary Dulloo has set a strict deadline of January 7, 2026, for departments to process pending bills through the SPARSH system, emphasizing that all disaster mitigation works must be completed by August 2026 to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
