LG Sinha addresses Dr Suresh Awasthi Memorial Lecture on AI and human progress
JAMMU, JULY 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered the keynote address today at a commemorative event organized by the Dr. Suresh Awasthi Smriti Nyas in Varanasi to mark the 20th Punya Smriti Diwas of Dr. Suresh Awasthi. Speaking on the topic “AI: Effects and Side Effects,” Manoj Sinha paid rich tribute to Dr. Awasthi, describing him as a distinguished scholar and visionary who viewed political science as a powerful tool for social change and nation-building.
He urged the younger generation to emulate Dr. Awasthi’s timeless ideals and channel them into constructive national development. In his address, Manoj Sinha highlighted how artificial intelligence has fundamentally reshaped the job market and defined the economic landscape of the current era. Comparing the AI revolution to historic milestones like the invention of the wheel, the printing press, and the internet, he noted that AI has already integrated into homes, schools, hospitals, agriculture, and government systems.
He emphasized that even in remote villages, AI is transforming lives by enabling local health workers to conduct medical checkups, providing farmers with instant crop advice, and offering students high-quality lessons in their native languages.Manoj Sinha asserted that technology must be guided by human sensitivity, noting that science and ethics should complement each other.
He stated that AI serves as a force multiplier rather than a replacement for human potential, freeing people from repetitive tasks to focus on uniquely human strengths. While acknowledging that every technological leap brings initial friction and requires rapid reskilling, he warned of the challenges posed by deepfakes and the erosion of truth.
He called for transparency to maintain public trust and urged the youth to balance scientific temper with ethical responsibility, emphasizing that the most successful societies will be those that foster skilled, creative, and empathetic citizens.
