Indian Navy’s IOS Sagar Departs Chattogram Following Successful Maritime Mission in Bangladesh
CHATTOGRAM, 12 MAY 2026 — The Indian Navy ship operating under the Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR initiative has concluded a successful port call in Bangladesh, departing Chattogram on 10 May 2026. The visit was defined by high-level professional engagements and cultural exchanges aimed at bolstering the maritime partnership between India and Bangladesh. Upon departure, the vessel received a formal ceremonial send-off from the Bangladesh Navy before beginning its transit toward Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Throughout the stay, the Commanding Officer of IOS Sagar held strategic meetings with senior Bangladesh Navy leadership, including the Commander BN Fleet and the Commander Chattogram Naval Area. These discussions focused on advancing bilateral cooperation and shared regional maritime goals. The diplomatic visit also featured a deck reception onboard the Indian vessel and a reciprocal event hosted by the Bangladesh Navy, fostering closer ties between the naval commands of both nations.
Technical and professional growth remained a core focus, with personnel from both navies participating in cross-deck visits and sharing best practices. The crew of IOS Sagar also engaged with officer cadets and faculty at the Bangladesh Naval Academy. Beyond formal duties, the visit included friendly sporting competitions and cultural activities designed to build camaraderie and mutual understanding between the maritime forces.
As the ship exited Chattogram, it conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) alongside BNS Protoy and Bangladesh Navy aviation assets. This exercise involved sophisticated surface maneuvers and coordinated drills to refine interoperability and operational synergy. With representatives from 16 partner nations currently embarked, the deployment of IOS Sagar continues to highlight a collective commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security across the Indian Ocean Region.
