Indian Army Empowers Border Communities in Lahaul & Spiti with New Infrastructure and Livelihood Initiatives
KAURIK, LAHAUL & SPITI — July 18, 2026 :- Reaffirming the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to the welfare and development of border areas, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Central Command (Surya Command), officially dedicated a newly constructed Community Hall to the residents of Kaurik village in the remote Lahaul and Spiti district. This new facility is designed to serve as a vibrant, shared hub for social, cultural, and community engagements, significantly improving the local social infrastructure.
In tandem with boosting community infrastructure, the initiative places a strong emphasis on fostering sustainable livelihoods within the high-altitude region. By actively promoting local employment through the integration and utilization of traditional Spiti ponies, the project not only helps preserve invaluable indigenous skills but also strengthens the economic resilience of the community. Through these sustained efforts, the Indian Army continues to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of India’s borderlands—strengthening bonds for the future while driving mutual partnership, progress, and long-term regional prosperity.
