ARTO and police launch joint traffic enforcement and safety awareness drive on NH 44 in Udhampur
UDHAMPUR, June 20, 2026 — The Motor Vehicles Department of Udhampur, in close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted a joint enforcement-cum-awareness drive along the National Highway 44 stretch from Udhampur to Chenani to ensure strict compliance with transport regulations and promote passenger safety.
Headed by ARTO Udhampur Mudassir Iqbal and SHO Chenani Nishant Gupta, the joint team carried out extensive enforcement checks focusing primarily on violations such as overloading, overcharging, and other provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. While inspecting transport vehicles operating on the highway, the officers advised operators to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, emphasizing that overloading threatens the safety of passengers and other road users.
Following the highway inspection, the team visited the Chenani area, including the local Bus Stand and Mini Bus Stand, to interact with commuters, residents, and transport operators to hear public grievances regarding regional transportation services.
The officers assured the public that all genuine concerns would be addressed promptly while simultaneously conducting an awareness campaign to sensitize drivers against carrying passengers beyond permitted capacity and overcharging fares.
Transporters were urged to exhibit responsible conduct to provide safe, fair, and efficient services, with ARTO Udhampur reiterating the department’s firm commitment to maintaining a commuter-friendly transport system through continuous public outreach and strict action against traffic violators.
