Kathua district administration hosts grand pre International Day of Yoga session at Purthu in Basohli
KATHUA, June 20, 2026 — As part of the week-long awareness activities organized ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026, the District Administration Kathua, in collaboration with the District AYUSH Office, today organized a mega yoga session at the picturesque Purthu in Basohli, a scenic spot widely popular as the Mini Goa of Basohli.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, attended by Basohli MLA Darshan Singh, Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Mahima Madan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Basohli Pankaj Bagotra, and Chief Planning Officer Ranjeet Thakur, alongside a large gathering of local citizens and yoga enthusiasts.
Under the expert guidance of District AYUSH Officer Dr Rakesh Sharma and Nodal Officer Dr Bodh Paul, the AYUSH department team led the participants through various yoga asanas while detailing their extensive benefits for both physical and mental well-being.
Appreciating the district administration’s unique choice of location, MLA Darshan Singh remarked that promoting yoga at such scenic destinations greatly boosts the mass message of health and wellness, urging everyone to adopt a collective resolve of practicing yoga daily under a “Yoga 365” lifestyle.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma explained that the series of pre-yoga day awareness activities across the district are strategically designed to sensitize the public about the holistic health benefits of the practice and to encourage people to embrace it as a way of life.
Concluding the session, the Deputy Commissioner formally invited all residents to actively participate in the main International Day of Yoga celebrations tomorrow on June 21, urging them to make yoga an integral part of their permanent daily routines.
