Jammu, August 15: Former Minister R.S. Chib hoisted the National Flag at an Independence Day function in Suchetgarh today, attended by senior leader Salman Nizami as the Guest of Honour. On the occasion, Mr. Chib recalled the supreme sacrifices made by the Indian Army, our security forces, and the freedom fighters during 1947 for India’s independence. He also paid homage to the victims of the tragic cloudburst in Kishtwar, which has claimed over 50 lives so far, expressing deep condolences to the bereaved families.
In his address, Nizami appealed for unity and brotherhood to defeat the forces inimical to the nation’s peace. He emphasised the importance of secularism as the foundation of India’s strength and harmony, highlighting that the country’s diversity is its greatest asset. Following the ceremony, the leaders visited the International Border, met BSF personnel, and conveyed warm Independence Day greetings to the Jawans on behalf of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, lauding their dedication and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation.
