Udhampur Administration Accelerates Social Security Coverage: DC Directs Mandatory Enrollment for Workers Under PMJJBY and PMSBY

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 08 — In a major push to expand the safety net for workforce members, Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa chaired an extensive high-level review meeting to assess the implementation of social security and labour welfare initiatives across the district. The strategic session focused on boosting enrollment in key central government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), ensuring that essential insurance and financial protection measures reach the most vulnerable populations at the grassroots level.

The meeting brought together key district leadership, including Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, senior departmental officials, and representatives from leading banking institutions to address current coverage bottlenecks. During the session, the Deputy Commissioner thoroughly evaluated current registration benchmarks and highlighted the need for a seamless, well-coordinated framework between government executing agencies and financial service providers to maximize coverage.

To ensure swift action, Executive Engineers and heads of concerned departments were tasked with formulating complete division-wise and project-wise inventories listing all active labourers and contractual workforce members under their jurisdiction. These finalized lists must be submitted by Monday, followed by mandatory, immediate registration of all identified workers into the PMJJBY and PMSBY coverage frameworks.

Emphasizing the core purpose of these welfare programs, officials were instructed to eliminate administrative delays and establish direct synergy with banks so that the long-term benefits of these flagship schemes successfully reach eligible workers and their families throughout the district.
