Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Drug Drive: Reasi Police Arrest 5 as Crackdown on Narcotic Abuse Intensifies

REASI, July 16, 2026: In a major push toward making the region entirely drug-free under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’ campaign, the Reasi Police has significantly intensified its enforcement operations against both drug users and peddlers across the district. During a routine patrol operation within their jurisdiction on Wednesday, a vigilant team from the Katra Police Station tactfully intercepted five suspected individuals at various locations who appeared to be under the influence of narcotic substances.

The suspects were immediately detained and shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Katra, where they underwent Rapid Multi-Drug Urine Tests, all of which returned positive results for illicit drug consumption. Following the confirmation, the police strictly enforced their zero-tolerance policy by booking all five individuals under Section 8/27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The apprehended individuals have been identified as Shiva Kumar of Saraswati Chowk (Katra), Uttam Singh of Akhli Bhutan (Katra), Sunil Datt of Kanjli (Katra), Rakesh Sharma of Ramnagar (Udhampur), and Rakesh Kumar of Latheri (Akhnoor), with separate criminal cases formally registered against each under FIR numbers 239/2026 through 243/2026.

Reaffirming their unwavering stance against substance abuse, local authorities have urged the general public to actively cooperate with the police department by sharing actionable intelligence regarding local drug rings to help eradicate the menace entirely from society.
