Supreme Court Bar Association issues resolution on Sonam Wangchuk fast over NEET crisis

NEW DELHI, July 16, 2026 :- The Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association convened to address the ongoing hunger strike undertaken by education reformer and innovator Sonam Wangchuk.

Expressing deep concern over the risk to his health and life, the legal body highlighted that his protest has successfully drawn national attention to grave issues surrounding the NEET examinations and the broader well-being of the country. The committee praised his lifelong work in transforming lives through discipline and innovation, describing it as a model of service rooted in direct community engagement.

In its formal resolution, the bar association observed that the fast has once again served the national conscience, reminding the public that moral courage is indispensable to national character. The committee noted that the protest sends a clear message for citizens to strengthen the moral fabric of the nation and uphold the values that sustain the constitutional democracy of India.

The committee further expressed its deep regret that institutional conscience has failed to respond with the necessary urgency and sensitivity, despite a person of integrity taking such an extreme step for the betterment of the education system. The resolution concluded by noting deep concerns over systemic failures affecting millions of young citizens alongside a troubling erosion of accountability across public institutions.
