Monsoon Session 2026: Congress to Hold Govt Accountable on Paper Leaks, Inflation, and Scams, Says Mallikarjun Kharge

NEW DELHI, JULY 16, 2026 — The Congress Party is gearing up for a highly confrontational Monsoon Session of Parliament, targeting the Modi administration on a wide array of systemic issues ranging from economic distress to institutional decay. Following a crucial meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) today, Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, declared that the opposition will aggressively demand accountability from the government on key national concerns.

In a detailed statement shared on social media, Kharge outlined a comprehensive charge sheet against the ruling government. Among the foremost issues slated for debate are the recurrent paper leaks and what the party terms the “systemic corrosion” of the national education system. The Congress also plans to corner the government on institutional capture, the controversial splitting of opposition political parties, and allegations of corruption under the label of “Chanda Chori” (donation theft) and other financial scams.

The opposition’s offensive will also heavily focus on everyday struggles of citizens, highlighting backbreaking price rise (inflation), unbridled deforestation, and the forced imposition of ethanol blending on 3.5 crore vehicle owners. Furthermore, Kharge emphasized that the party will raise serious questions regarding recent foreign policy failures, strategic blunders, and the ongoing assault on the constitutional rights of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minority communities. These pressing issues, Kharge noted, are central to the lives and aspirations of the Indian public and were heavily deliberated upon by the CPP to finalize the party’s parliamentary strategy.
