Preparations reviewed for River Cruise Transport project on Jhelum
SRINAGAR, July 16:Transport Secretary Avny Lavasa conducted a comprehensive review of the preparations for the proposed River Cruise Transport project, which is being developed by the Inland Waterways Authority of India in collaboration with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by the Regional Transport Officer for Kashmir and the Joint Director of the Transport Department, the official inspected the proposed cruise route extending from Zero Bridge to Pantha Chowk to evaluate infrastructure development and operational readiness.
The inspection team visited several proposed terminals to assess crucial components such as passenger embarkation and disembarkation facilities, navigational requirements, and safety measures.
Avny Lavasa stressed the importance of close coordination among the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the Transport Department, and other stakeholder agencies to ensure that the project is completed on time while adhering strictly to safety standards and passenger convenience.
Once operational, the project is expected to offer a sustainable, eco-friendly transit option and significantly boost tourism along the Jhelum River.
