DIG Udhampur Reasi Range reviews Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine security

KATRA, June 26, 2026 — In anticipation of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 and an expected surge in pilgrim footfall, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, chaired a high-level joint security review meeting. The meeting was held at Katra and along the Bhawan route to assess and strengthen operational preparedness, ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra.

Senior officials from the police, army, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and the shrine board attended the briefing.During the session, security heads presented a detailed overview of the existing security grid covering Katra town, the trekking tracks, and the holy shrine itself.

The review focused on CCTV surveillance mechanisms, emergency response protocols, and inter-agency coordination. Special emphasis was placed on securing hilly terrains, high ridges, and vulnerable locations surrounding the route, with directives issued to intensify monitoring and deploy personnel at strategic heights for effective area domination.

To further ensure the safety of devotees, the police chief ordered the establishment of random checkpoints and enhanced vehicle checking operations. Security forces will conduct round-the-clock joint long-range patrols, increased foot patrolling, and regular area domination exercises.

Additionally, Village Defence Guards will be activated, and continuous surveillance will be maintained across sensitive zones.Crowd management measures were also heavily emphasized to facilitate the orderly movement of pilgrims and prevent incidents such as stampedes or security breaches.

All participating agencies were directed to maintain adequate manpower, medical assistance, and communication systems. The directives also included regular verification checks at local hotels and lodges, alongside a call for seamless intelligence sharing to address any emerging challenges effectively.
