Grand Tawi Mahotsav: JMC and Jammu Smart City to Celebrate Baisakhi with Riverfront Festival

JAMMU, April 08, 2026— The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Jammu Smart City Limited have announced the “Swachh Tawi Mahotsav,” a three-day grand celebration scheduled to take place at the 4th Tawi Bridge from April 14 to April 16. Organized under the Housing and Urban Development Department, this festival marks the occasion of Baisakhi while showcasing the city’s progress under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.

JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, alongside senior officials and Swachhata Champions, revealed that the event will transform the Tawi riverfront into a vibrant cultural hub featuring a traditional Mela, professional Dangal (wrestling), food festivals serving authentic Dogri cuisine, and high-energy celebrity performances. The festival aims to blend local heritage with environmental consciousness, encouraging citizens to celebrate the “Surya Putri Tawi” while committing to its preservation.

A major highlight of this year’s Mahotsav is the introduction of professional motorboat and rafting services on the river, serving as a pilot program ahead of a permanent water sports launch guided by the National Institute of Water Sports, Goa.

While entry to the festival, cultural programs, and laser shows remains free to the public, boating experiences will be ticketed at 100 for adults and 50 for children. To ensure the riverfront remains pristine throughout the festivities, the JMC has implemented stricter fines for littering and deployed dedicated sanitation teams.

By integrating family-friendly fun rides and handloom exhibits with a focus on urban cleanliness, the administration seeks to foster a sense of community pride and establish the Tawi riverfront as a premier destination for both residents and tourists.
