SRINAGAR, Feb 11, 2026 — A late-night inferno swept through a residential cluster in the Habbakadal area of Srinagar, leaving several houses damaged and three people injured, including a firefighter. The blaze, which broke out late Tuesday night, triggered panic in the densely populated neighborhood as emergency teams battled to contain the flames.
According to official reports from the State Fire Control Room, the emergency call was received at approximately 10:30-35 PM.
Fire tenders from multiple stations were dispatched immediately, arriving on the scene within minutes. The intensity of the fire was exacerbated by the explosion of two to three gas cylinders, which caused significant structural damage, primarily concentrated in the attic portions of the affected buildings.
The firefighting operation proved hazardous; one firefighter sustained hand injuries while battling the blaze and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Additionally, two civilians were injured during the incident and are currently receiving medical care.
While the fire has been brought under control, the exact cause of the spark remains unknown and is currently under official investigation.
