Srinagar Flight Cancellations: Airspace Restrictions and Snowfall Disrupt Air Travel

SRINAGAR, J&K — January 24, 2026 :-Flight operations at Srinagar International Airport faced significant disruptions today as a combination of heavy snowfall in the Kashmir Valley and strict airspace restrictions at Delhi Airport led to multiple cancellations.

The Srinagar Airport Authority issued a fresh passenger advisory via X (formerly Twitter), noting that the temporary flight suspension in the national capital—linked to Republic Day security preparations—coupled with poor visibility in Srinagar, has made scheduled operations untenable for several carriers.

According to the latest updates, major airlines including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, and Vistara have been forced to ground several services on the Srinagar-Delhi sector. Specifically, flights such as IndiGo 6E-2449, 6E-6761, and 6E-5070, along with SpiceJet SG-129, are among those reported as cancelled or severely delayed.

Travelers are currently facing extended wait times as ground teams work to clear the runway amid the ongoing winter storm, which has already blanketed the region in over 30 cm of snow.

The airport authorities have urged all passengers to verify their flight status directly with their respective airlines—such as Air India Express or Alliance Air—before leaving for the terminal to avoid being stranded in the freezing conditions.

While the authorities expressed deep regret for the inconvenience, they emphasized that the air traffic limits in Delhi and the hazardous weather are beyond their immediate control. Restoration of full flight schedules remains subject to improved weather clearance and the lifting of security-related airspace holds.
