IGP Traffic J&K Reviews Snowfall Recovery and Republic Day Traffic Management
JAMMU/Srinagar, JANUARY 23, 2026 — IGP Traffic J&K, Mohd Suleman Choudhary, chaired a high-level meeting today to evaluate the traffic situation following recent snowfall in the Kashmir Valley, Banihal, and Ramban areas, while simultaneously finalizing traffic arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
During the session, which included senior traffic officials from across the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, the IGP conducted a comprehensive review of regulation measures for the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and other weather-affected routes.
To manage current disruptions, SSP Traffic City Srinagar and SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir were directed to halt Jammu-bound vehicles at Qazigund and other points until road conditions improve, while SSP NHW Ramban was instructed to establish strategic cut-off points to prevent highway congestion. The IGP emphasized the deployment of breakdown assistance teams at vulnerable locations to clear stranded vehicles and mandated the use of reflective barricades, signage, and public address systems for real-time traveler advisories.
Additionally, the meeting concluded with strict directives to implement robust traffic plans and diversions for Republic Day to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety during the national holiday festivities.
