UDHAMPUR | January 21, 2026:- In a major breakthrough against the narcotics trade, Udhampur Police successfully intercepted and busted an inter-district drug smuggling module at the Jakhani area.
During a routine naka checking operation, a police team from Police Station Udhampur stopped a suspicious vehicle (registration number JK01AT-7571) traveling from Jammu toward Srinagar. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle and its occupants, officers recovered 51.59 grams of Heroin.
The high-grade narcotic was seized on the spot after the suspects failed to provide any legal justification or satisfactory explanation for its possession.
The two individuals arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt have been identified as Saqib Haneed Dar, son of Abdul Hameed Dar, resident of Sheikhpora, Srinagar, and Faisal Lateef Rather, son of Mohd. Latief Rather, resident of Hyderpora, Srinagar.
Following the recovery, Udhampur Police registered a formal case under Case FIR No. 22/2026 involving Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act.
An intensive investigation has been launched to trace the forward and backward linkages of this module, as part of the ongoing mission to make the region drug-free.
