J&K ACB Arrests Four Government Officials in Major Anti-Corruption Crackdown

JAMMU, January 20, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out a series of successful operations today, resulting in the arrest of four government officials across three separate bribery cases in Udhampur and Rajouri.

In the first instance, the ACB registered a case at the Udhampur station following a complaint against Anil Jamwal, a Junior Assistant in the office of the Superintending Engineer PWD R&B, and Jeet Kumar, a Computer Operator in the Executive Engineer’s office.

The duo allegedly demanded a bribe from a local citizen for the issuance of a contractor card. A trap team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police caught both officials red-handed while accepting ₹12,000. Following the arrest, authorities conducted extensive searches at their residences in Ram Nagar and Laddan Power House. In a second operation conducted by the ACB Rajouri, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Zamurat Manhas was apprehended for allegedly extorting money at the Mendhar Police Station.

The officer had reportedly intervened in a private monetary dispute and demanded a bribe from the complainant to “settle” the matter, going as far as threatening to book the individual under the Public Safety Act (PSA) if the payment was not made. Acting on a written complaint, the ACB team caught the ASI red-handed while accepting an illegal gratification of ₹5,000.

Subsequent searches were carried out at his properties in Mendhar, Surankote, and Jammu to gather further evidence. The third case involved the arrest of a Patwari, identified as Mohd Razaq, who was posted in the Patwar Halqa Sokar/Prori area of Koteranka. The official allegedly demanded a bribe from a father who sought to have his three daughters’ names officially recorded in the revenue documents, specifically the Khasra Girdwari.

Refusing to pay the illegal fee, the complainant approached the ACB Rajouri, leading to a trap where the Patwari was caught accepting ₹10,000. All four accused are currently in custody, and the ACB has confirmed that further investigations into these three cases are ongoing to ensure all legal formalities are completed.
