Manoj Sinha Inaugurates Redeveloped Amira Kadal Bridge to Boost Srinagar Urban Mobility
SRINAGAR, January 20, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially inaugurated the redeveloped Amira Kadal bridge in Srinagar today, marking the completion of a historically significant project aimed at preserving cultural legacy while enhancing urban mobility.
Executed under Srinagar Smart City Limited at a cost of 7.70 crore, the project began in December 2023 with a strict focus on heritage conservation, structural safety, and high-quality craftsmanship. Dedicating the pedestrian wooden bridge to the public, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the primary objective is to elevate the quality of life for residents through a blend of modern technology and inclusive design.
He noted that the mission of the administration is to protect the “soul” of every city by integrating modern amenities directly into the cultural heartbeat of traditional markets, historic lanes, and lively public squares.During the ceremony, Sinha highlighted that infrastructure renovation should serve as a beautiful link between a city’s heritage and its contemporary needs.
He cited several successful examples across Jammu and Kashmir, including the Jhelum Riverfront, the redevelopment of Lal Chowk and Polo View High Street, and the Tawi Riverfront project.
According to the Lieutenant Governor, these initiatives do more than just attract tourists; they provide a significant boost to local businesses and strengthen the regional economy. He asserted that a “true smart city” is defined not merely by its physical structures but by its ability to spark a vibrant, efficient, and inclusive way of living that honors its roots while building a resilient future for the younger generation.
Following the inauguration, the Lieutenant Governor interacted with local shopkeepers and traders, explaining that the new pedestrian bridge would improve accessibility and stimulate commercial activity in the area.
The event was attended by several high-ranking officials and representatives, including Member of Legislative Assembly for Lal Chowk, Ahsan Pardesi; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg; IGP Kashmir, VK Birdi; Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo; and CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited, Faz Lul Haseeb, alongside prominent citizens and members of various trade associations.
