Indian Railways’ OSOP Scheme Reaches 2,000 Stations, Empowering 1.32 Lakh Artisans
NEW DELHI | January 20, 2026 Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to promote regional craftsmanship through the One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative. As of January 19, 2026, the scheme has successfully expanded to 2,002 railway stations, featuring a total of 2,326 operational outlets across the country. This strategic expansion has transformed bustling transit hubs into vibrant marketplaces, providing a vital platform for grassroots entrepreneurs to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage to millions of daily passengers.
Since its inception in 2022, the OSOP program has become a cornerstone for inclusive economic growth, directly benefiting over 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers, and small-scale producers. By offering direct market access, the initiative eliminates intermediaries, allowing local craftsmen to retain a larger share of their earnings. From the intricate bamboo work of the Northeast and handmade pottery to regional spices and traditional handlooms, the scheme is effectively reviving heritage crafts that were previously at risk of fading away.
The success of the OSOP initiative reflects the “Vocal for Local” vision, bridging the gap between rural production and urban consumption. By integrating local commerce with the national railway network, Indian Railways is not only enhancing the traveler’s experience with authentic regional products but also ensuring the long-term sustainability of India’s traditional art forms. This synergy of culture and commerce continues to empower local communities while fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s diverse regional identities.
