Operation Trashi-I Enters Third Day; massive search operation underway

KISHTWAR, Jan 20, 2026 — The massive anti-terror offensive, codenamed Operation Trashi-I, has entered its third consecutive day in the rugged upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

Launched following specific intelligence regarding militant presence in Sonnar village near the Mandral-Singhpora area, the operation has intensified as security forces look to neutralize a trapped group of two to three terrorists, believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

The encounter previously claimed the life of an Army paratrooper and left seven others injured during a sudden grenade attack by hiding militants.

Despite the challenging terrain, elite forces successfully busted a well-fortified hideout situated at an altitude of over 12,000 feet, which was stocked with enough winter supplies, blankets, and food to sustain multiple individuals through the harshest months.

In a major breakthrough, several suspects have been detained for questioning as investigators attempt to dismantle the local support network of Overground Workers (OGWs) who facilitated the transportation of logistics to such high altitudes.

Top security officials, are currently present at the site to personally supervise the cordoning and search efforts. This heightened security posture comes amid a broader regional alert ahead of Republic Day, with intelligence inputs suggesting desperate attempts by Pakistan-based handlers to infiltrate more terrorists.

The search remains ongoing as forces tighten the perimeter around the dense forested areas of Chatroo to ensure no escape for the holed-up terrorists.
