Indian Army’s Gurj Division Empowers Village Defence Guards in Samba to Bolster Border Security
SAMBA, January 19, 2026 — In a strategic move to fortify the nation’s first line of defense, the Gurj Division of the Indian Army conducted an intensive training program for Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the border reaches of Samba district.
The initiative, themed “Security through Participation,” focuses on enhancing the tactical readiness of local volunteers to act as a force multiplier for security agencies. By equipping VDGs with advanced surveillance techniques and emergency response skills, the Army aims to create a robust security grid that strengthens community-led vigilance against infiltration and cross-border threats.
The training session underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to a “Strong and Capable” defense infrastructure through civil-military cooperation.
Participants were briefed on modern security protocols and regional threat assessments to ensure seamless coordination with regular troops during operations.
This collaborative effort not only boosts the morale of the border population but also ensures that the remote areas of Samba remain resilient and vigilant against any anti-national activities, further securing the integrity of the International Border.
