Udhampur Police Arrest Female Bootlegger; Illicit Liquor Seized in Chenani
Udhampur January 16, 2026 — In a continued crackdown on the illegal sale of intoxicants, the Udhampur Police successfully apprehended a female bootlegger and recovered a quantity of illicit liquor in the Chenani area today.
A specialized team from the Police Station Chenani, while conducting routine patrolling in the Karsund vicinity, spotted a woman acting suspiciously while carrying a yellow plastic container.
Upon noticing the police presence, the suspect attempted to evade the officers and flee the scene, but was quickly intercepted and apprehended by the alert police party.During a thorough search of the container, officials discovered 02 litres of illicit desi liquor.
The accused has been identified as Bimla Devi, wife of Vijay Kumar and a resident of Raji, Chenani. Following her on-the-spot arrest, she was taken into custody for further questioning. The police are investigating the source of the contraband and whether the individual is part of a larger localized distribution network operating within the district.
A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 07/2026, invoking Section 48(a) of the relevant act at the Chenani Police Station. While an official investigation is currently underway to uncover further leads, the Udhampur Police have reiterated their commitment to making the region free from illegal substances.
