JAMMU January 12, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level review meeting today to assess the developmental landscape of Jammu district, emphasizing the urgent need for timely project completion and durable infrastructure.
During the session, the Chief Minister inaugurated a suite of projects valued at ₹19.05 crore and laid the foundation stones for new works worth ₹13.48 crore.
To bolster urban utility services and healthcare, he also flagged off advanced sewerage suction and desilting machinery alongside a new ambulance for CHC Pallanwalla.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, various cabinet ministers, Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, and local MLAs, ensuring a collaborative approach between the executive and elected representatives.
Addressing the assembly, Chief Minister Abdullah issued clear directives to prioritize permanent flood restoration over temporary fixes, noting that current water levels mirror the 2014 crisis. He revealed that over ₹1400 crore has been sanctioned for flood works, insisting that assets must be built to withstand extreme weather.
On the agricultural front, he ordered a comprehensive ground-level inspection of irrigation canals, particularly at the tail-end areas, to ensure equitable water distribution. In a significant relief move for farmers, the Chief Minister announced that unauthorized electricity connections for irrigation would be regularized as non-metered connections and confirmed there would be no hike in electricity charges for the farming community this year.
He concluded by urging the district administration to maintain their strong performance in fund utilization as the financial year draws to a close.
