TRAI Conducts Quality Assessment of Mobile Networks in Sonipat; Detailed Service Findings Released

SONIPAT, January 09, 2026: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted throughout Sonipat City and its neighboring areas in Haryana to evaluate the real-world quality of mobile voice and data services. Executed by the TRAI Regional Office in Jaipur between December 2 and December 4, 2025, the assessment covered approximately 188.4 kilometers and eight key hotspots including Murthal Road, Bahalgarh, and several residential sectors. Using advanced handsets and real-time monitoring software, the test captured critical performance indicators across 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G networks for major service providers including Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio (RJIL), and Vodafone Idea (VIL).

The report highlights significant variations in performance among the telecom service providers (TSPs). In terms of voice services, Airtel and Vodafone Idea achieved perfect 100% call setup success rates, while Reliance Jio led in call setup speed with an average time of just 0.66 seconds. However, BSNL lagged behind with a call setup success rate of 91.27% and a higher call silence rate of 3.08%. Data performance showcased a competitive landscape for high-speed connectivity; Reliance Jio recorded the highest average download throughput at 250.35 Mbps, closely followed by Airtel at 230.90 Mbps. Vodafone Idea and BSNL followed with significantly lower speeds of 37.99 Mbps and 14.66 Mbps, respectively.

TRAI has shared these detailed findings with the respective TSPs to facilitate infrastructure improvements and ensure better service delivery for consumers. The full report, which includes data on latency and speech quality (Mean Opinion Score), is now available for public viewing on the official TRAI website. This initiative remains a part of TRAI’s ongoing effort to empower consumers with transparent network performance data and to encourage healthy competition among providers to enhance the telecommunications landscape in the Haryana service area.
