Reasi Security Review: SMAC Meeting Convened to Strengthen Intelligence Sharing and Republic Day Safety
REASI | January 8, 2026 – In a proactive move to fortify the regional security framework, a Subsidiary Multi-Agency Centre (SMAC) meeting was held today at the District Police Office Reasi.
Chaired by Vipan Chandran, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Katra, the high-level session focused on enhancing inter-agency coordination and intelligence synergy in light of the current security landscape.
The meeting saw the participation of top brass from the CRPF, Rashtriya Rifles, Intelligence Bureau, and various wings of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, including Pardeep Kumar Giri Goswami (CO CRPF 6th Bn), Iftkhar Ahmed (Addl. SP Reasi), and Lieutenant Colonel Manish Thakur (HQ 14 Sector RR).
The primary agenda centered on a comprehensive review of the security arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day 2026 celebrations. Officials engaged in detailed discussions regarding the movement of militants, potential revival attempts by anti-national elements, and the evolving dynamics of local militancy.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to the surveillance of Over Ground Workers (OGWs), monitoring surrendered militants, and tracking missing youths who may have links to across the border.
ASP Katra emphasized the need for a heightened vigil against radicalization trends and underscored that the “seamless communication” of actionable intelligence is the most effective tool for maintaining peace in the district.
The meeting concluded with a brainstorming session where representatives from various intelligence units shared field-based assessments and strategic viewpoints. Vipan Chandran urged all sister agencies to work with a collective resolve, ensuring that no gaps remain in the security grid of District Reasi.
By integrating the technical expertise of the Intelligence Bureau with the ground-level presence of the SOG and local police stations, the agencies aim to create a multi-layered shield against anti-social activities, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the public.
