RAJOURI, JANUARY 07, 2026: A major tragedy was averted today in the Rajouri district after security forces recovered a live Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO).
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajouri Police launched a massive search operation around 14:00 hours, targeting the Kote Behrote and Kalar forest areas.
During the intensive search of the Upper Behrote forest, troops discovered the explosive device hidden in the rugged terrain. Following standard operating procedures, the Army’s bomb disposal experts were called to the scene, and the recovered IED was safely destroyed on the spot through a controlled explosion.
The timely recovery has thwarted potential plans by anti-national elements to target security convoys or public infrastructure in the sensitive border region.
As of the latest reports, no exchange of fire or contact with terrorists has been established, and no casualties have been reported.
However, the CASO is currently continuing as security forces expand their search perimeter to ensure no other cached weapons or explosives remain in the vicinity. Security across the Rajouri sector has been further tightened following the discovery.
