JAMMU, January 06, 2026 — Labour Commissioner J&K, Charandeep Singh, chaired a high-level review meeting today to evaluate the ongoing implementation of the new Labour Codes across the Union Territory.
During the session, the Commissioner stressed that the success of these reforms hinges on the active participation and informed engagement of all key stakeholders, including employers, HR managers, and both organized and unorganized sector workers.
He called for an intensified Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign to ensure that the objectives of the codes are clearly understood at the grassroots level, emphasizing that inclusive sensitization is the foundation for effective ground-level execution.
Assistant Labour Commissioners provided updates on district-level initiatives, reporting a series of workshops and interactive sessions held with industrial units, trade unions, and professionals to demystify compliance requirements and welfare measures.
The meeting highlighted specialized outreach efforts aimed at the unorganized sector, utilizing community-level interactions and field visits to educate workers on their rights, social security benefits, and safety provisions.
To streamline future progress, the Labour Commissioner directed the department to develop a structured action plan centered on mass-scale capacity building. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to modernizing labour governance in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that even the most vulnerable sections are fully aware of the legal benefits and grievance redressal mechanisms available under the new framework.
