Al Badr terrorist commander Hamza Burhan shot dead in Pakistan occupied Kashmir

POK, May 21, 2026 — Al-Badr terrorist commander Hamza Burhan, a key conspirator in the deadly 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Tuesday.

Famously known by his alias Doctor within extremist networks, Burhan suffered multiple critical bullet injuries during the targeted ambush in Muzaffarabad.

Security sources confirmed that the attackers managed to flee the scene immediately after launching the assault, and no group has claimed responsibility for the execution.

A native of Kharbatpora village in the Ratnipora area of Pulwama district, Burhan originally crossed over to Pakistan in 2017 under the pretext of pursuing higher education.

Instead, he joined the banned terror outfit Al-Badr and climbed through the organizational ranks to become a top commander, orchestrating multiple terrorists operations in the Kashmir Valley.

Recognizing his active involvement in cross-border terrorism and subversive activities against national security, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs officially designated him as a terrorist under statutory laws in 2022.

Intelligence reports heavily link Burhan to the execution planning of the February 14, 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing, which resulted in the deaths of 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel when an explosives-laden vehicle struck a security convoy at Lethpora.
