India urges BRICS nations to combat cross-border terrorism and choke terror funding networks

NEW DELHI, May 21, 2026 — Secretary West Sibi George delivered the keynote address at the 11th Annual BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group Meeting in New Delhi today, calling for united global action against terrorism.

During his address, the diplomat highlighted India’s deep concerns regarding cross-border terrorism and urged member nations to launch concerted efforts to combat the menace in all its forms.

He emphasized the critical need to hold accountable those countries and entities that shelter, nurture, and financially support terrorist networks across international borders.

The Secretary stressed the importance of developing a robust, collaborative approach to tackle modern counter-terrorism challenges, specifically pointing out evolving terror funding mechanisms, online radicalization, and the misuse of emerging technologies by extremist groups.

He reiterated that a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism must serve as the foundational principle for all international security frameworks.

To effectively counter these threats, he called for the strengthening of the existing global counter-terrorism architecture through comprehensive, active, and sustained international cooperation.

Underscoring the future roadmap for the multinational forum, the diplomat stated the need to make the BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group more resilient, innovative, inclusive, and outcome-oriented.

He concluded his address by reaffirming India’s steadfast commitment to further deepening security cooperation with all BRICS member countries to achieve a secure and terror-free world.
