UDHAMPUR, 30 December :- In a decisive strike against illegal livestock trafficking, authorities have dismantled the financial backbone of local smuggling syndicates by attaching properties valued at ₹1.50 crore throughout 2025.
Invoking the stringent provisions of Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), law enforcement executed a series of coordinated asset seizures across the Chenani, Rehambal, Udhampur, and Majalta police jurisdictions.
The crackdown targeted habitual offenders, resulting in the formal attachment of 11 high-value vehicles, including Tata pick-ups and heavy-duty trucks, all identified as being repeatedly utilized in the commission of these crimes.
The investigation revealed that these assets were the direct proceeds of criminal activity, purchased and maintained through the profits of a sophisticated smuggling nexus. A landmark moment in the year-long operation was the seizure of a truck worth ₹40 lakh by the Majalta Police Station.
This high-value vehicle belonged to Rafqat Ali, son of Mohd Shafi and a resident of Dabriah, and was attached under Section 107(5) of the BNSS. This single seizure serves as a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to paralyze the economic incentives that fuel the illegal bovine trade in the region.
This major financial offensive underscores a shift toward hitting smugglers where it hurts most: their wallets. By transitioning from simple arrests to the permanent seizure of operational fleets, the authorities are sending a clear message of zero tolerance.
Law enforcement officials have warned that any individual involved in the smuggling network will face rigorous legal prosecution alongside the immediate attachment of their properties and assets.
