Reasi Police Crack Down on Narcotics Near Katra: Drug Peddler Arrested and Heroin Seized at Searli Naka

REASI, DECEMBER 29: In an intensified effort to safeguard the holy town of Katra and its visiting pilgrims, the District Police Reasi successfully intercepted a drug trafficking attempt during a routine security check.

On the night of December 28, 2025, police personnel established a strategic checkpoint at Searli to monitor the heavy influx of yatris when they stopped a Swift Dzire car traveling from Udhampur toward Katra.

During a thorough search of the vehicle’s driver, identified as Beeru from Tehsil Ramnagar, officers discovered approximately 3.320 grams of a heroin-like substance concealed in his trouser pocket.

Following the recovery, a formal case under FIR No. 346/2025 was registered at Police Station Katra under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and the accused was immediately taken into custody.

The operation was conducted by Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao under the direct supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipan Chandran.

This arrest is part of a broader commitment by SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh to maintain the sanctity of Katra by eradicating the drug menace from the region. Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation to trace both the source of the contraband and its intended destination to dismantle any underlying criminal networks.

The Reasi Police have urged the general public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the area remains a safe and drug-free environment for residents and devotees alike.
