POONCH, DECEMBER 28: In a move to bolster regional stability and judicial efficiency, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Rajouri–Poonch (RP) Range, Tajinder Singh, chaired an extensive Intelligence, Security, and Crime Review meeting today. Held at the Conference Hall of the District Police Office in Poonch, the session began with a detailed briefing from SSP Poonch, Shafqat Hussain, who outlined the current security landscape and intelligence status of the district. The high-level meeting focused on a multi-pronged strategy to enhance grassroots policing, refine case disposal rates, and modernize investigative techniques across the border district.
A central theme of the review was the rejuvenation of the intelligence grid through the rigorous implementation of the Beat System. DIG Tajinder Singh issued clear directives for officers to prioritize the identification and surveillance of terror ecosystems and narco-support networks. He emphasized that sustained monitoring of absconders and individuals with tainted reputations is essential for proactive policing. By strengthening human intelligence (HUMINT) and encouraging regular community interactions at the Police Station and Police Post levels, the department aims to create a more responsive and alert security framework capable of thwarting anti-national activities.
Addressing the technical side of law enforcement, the DIG stressed the necessity of professional, transparent, and fair investigations. He urged officers to move beyond traditional methods by integrating scientific and technology-driven tools, such as Forensic Mobile Units and “Scene of Crime” documentation. Emphasizing strict adherence to investigation timelines, Singh noted that professional excellence is the key to maintaining public trust. The meeting, attended by all gazetted officers and territorial SHOs of District Poonch, concluded with a call for high standards of alertness and a public-centric approach to ensure lasting peace in the region.
