CAQM Finds Major Gaps in Gurugram Dust Control After Inspecting 125 MCG Road Stretches
NEW DELHI, 27 DEC 2025 – The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) conducted a massive inspection drive in Gurugram on December 26, 2025, to evaluate the road-cleaning operations of the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG). As part of the statutory Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), 17 specialized teams from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and the Central Pollution Control Board were deployed to monitor 125 road stretches. The primary goal was to assess on-ground compliance regarding dust mitigation, waste management, and the prevention of open burning. Each team collected geo-tagged and time-stamped photographic evidence to ensure a transparent and data-driven report on the city’s environmental maintenance efforts.
The inspection findings revealed significant deficiencies in routine road maintenance and enforcement. Out of the 125 stretches surveyed, 34 were identified as having high visible dust levels, while 58 exhibited moderate dust. Worryingly, only four stretches were found to be completely dust-free. The report highlighted a direct correlation between high dust levels and the accumulation of Municipal Solid Waste and Construction and Demolition waste. Furthermore, multiple instances of open burning were documented across various residential and arterial roads, indicating a serious lapse in field-level supervision and waste disposal protocols.
In response to these findings, the Commission has directed the MCG to immediately strengthen its on-ground operations, specifically calling for increased mechanical sweeping, frequent water sprinkling, and the scientific disposal of collected waste. The CAQM emphasized that sustained efforts are necessary to prevent the re-accumulation of dust and to improve air quality in the region. Moving forward, the Commission reiterated that enforcement drives under “Operation Clean Air” will continue across the National Capital Region to ensure strict adherence to statutory directions and to achieve dust-free road conditions on a war footing.
