Kathua Drug Control: DC Rajesh Sharma Reviews NCORD Anti-Drug Initiatives

Kathua 27 December :- Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, convened a high-level meeting of the National Coordination and Monitoring Committee (NCORD) to evaluate ongoing strategies aimed at eradicating the drug menace across the district.

During the session, various departments presented updates on their preventive and enforcement frameworks. Notably, the State Taxes Department announced the formation of joint teams to monitor courier consignments, while the Excise and Taxation Department confirmed that mapping of vulnerable zones is currently underway alongside intensified public awareness campaigns.

To address the issue at its roots, colleges have introduced specialized counseling sessions led by psychology experts to facilitate the early identification of at-risk youth and provide behavioral guidance.

The review also highlighted a multi-sectoral approach involving the Health, Rural Development, and School Education departments, which continue to execute anti-drug campaigns at both the community and institutional levels. Senior officials, including ADCs and SDMs, provided localized data on surveillance and enforcement efforts within their jurisdictions, sharing critical intelligence on suspected activities in high-risk areas.

Concluding the meeting, DC Rajesh Sharma emphasized that inter-departmental coordination and real-time information sharing with the police are vital to the success of these operations. He directed administrators to consolidate their surveillance efforts and mandated regular inspections to ensure a sustained crackdown on narcotics.

The meeting saw participation from key officials, including SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma and DC State Taxes Joginder Singh Jasrotia, with several sub-district magistrates joining virtually to align on the district-wide mission.
