End of Isolation: Abrogation of Article 370 Erased Decades of Stagnation and Inequality in Jammu & Kashmir
JAMMU, December 26, 2025: Highlighting a transformative shift in the region’s socio-political landscape, J&K BJP Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra stated today that the abrogation of Article 370 has successfully dismantled a regressive system that fostered discrimination and separatism for over seven decades.
Speaking on the progress since August 2019, Mahotra noted that the provision served as a barrier that kept the Union Territory isolated from the national mainstream, specifically depriving marginalized groups—including West Pakistan Refugees, Gorkhas, the Valmiki Samaj, and Scheduled Tribes—of basic citizenship and property rights. He emphasized that the removal of this “draconian” law has finally ended blatant gender discrimination, where women previously lost their residency rights upon marrying outside the state, ensuring they now enjoy equal status under democratic values.Mahotra further asserted that the constitutional change has paved the way for unprecedented governance and economic growth.
Under the old system, lack of transparency and the limited applicability of central laws allowed corruption and dynastic politics to flourish while choking industrial development and employment. By implementing over 800 Central laws related to education, labor rights, and social welfare, the current administration has replaced stagnation with a culture of accountability. Furthermore, he credited the decision with neutralizing the seeds of terrorism and separatism that Pakistan historically exploited.
Paying tribute to the vision of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, Mahotra reiterated that the era of “Two Constitutions and Two Flags” is gone forever, and those demanding a return to the old status quo are effectively opposing human rights and the inclusive development currently reaching every household in Jammu and Kashmir.
