SRINAGAR, December 26, 2025: In a major push to decongest the summer capital, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg today chaired a high-level meeting of the Multi-Disciplinary Committee (MDC) to fast-track traffic management reforms in Srinagar. The committee officially approved several structural interventions, including the construction of a new rotary at Exchange Junction, road widening at the Sangarmal Junction, and significant layout improvements at Jahangir Chowk.
These measures are specifically designed to ease the chronic bottleneck on MA Road and ensure a smoother flow for commuters.Beyond structural changes, the meeting highlighted a shift toward smarter, more disciplined urban mobility. The color-coding of mini-buses has been successfully completed in Srinagar’s western zone, with the eastern zone set to follow shortly to help passengers easily identify routes. In a significant move to combat urban stress, the administration has declared the vicinities of JVC, Children’s Hospital, and Karanagar as strict “No-Honking Zones.” Furthermore, to bolster safety, the Public Works Department (PWD) and BEACON have been directed to conduct a joint safety audit of accident black spots on the Parimpora–Narbal Highway.
Technological integration remains at the heart of the city’s transformation, with Divisional Commissioner Garg directing Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) to expedite the operationalization of all Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras. The meeting also confirmed that tenders for IT-based parking facilities at popular spots like Nehru Park and Harwan have been floated. Additionally, plans are in motion for a multi-level parking facility at Jamia Masjid and a vehicular underpass at Mominabad Junction, signaling a comprehensive effort to modernize Srinagar’s infrastructure while realigning e-bus routes for maximum public convenience.
