JAMMU, DECEMBER 24: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu has issued a mandatory public notice directing all owners of motor vehicles with registration numbers from other States or Union Territories plying in the Jammu Division to apply for re-registration immediately.
According to the directive, any vehicle stationed in Jammu for more than 12 months without a local registration mark is in direct violation of Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Officials emphasized that this measure is crucial for ensuring proper vehicle traceability, regulatory compliance, and overall public safety within the region.
Vehicle owners have been granted a strict 15-day window from the date of the notice to approach the competent authority and obtain a new registration mark. The RTO warned that failure to comply with this deadline will lead to stringent enforcement actions, including the seizure and detention of vehicles, heavy financial penalties, and further legal proceedings under the Motor Vehicles Act and associated rules.
This crackdown aims to streamline the transport database and ensure that all long-term residents using out-of-state vehicles contribute to the local regulatory framework.
