Sakeena Itoo Praises Anganwadi Workers as Backbone of Community Development at Jammu Poshan Pakhwada
JAMMU, April 24, 2026 — Minister for Social Welfare, Education, Health, and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, described Anganwadi workers and helpers as the essential backbone of grassroots child welfare and community development during the concluding ceremony of the 8th Poshan Pakhwada at Government Polytechnic College.
Addressing a large gathering of frontline workers and departmental officials, the Minister emphasized that these workers serve as the primary link between the government and families in both rural and urban areas, providing critical services in nutrition, healthcare, and early childhood education.
She commended their tireless dedication, noting that their efforts are fundamental to building a healthier and more empowered future generation for the region.The Minister highlighted the scale of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) sector, which employs over 28,000 women across Jammu and Kashmir.
She noted that Anganwadi workers play a versatile role, often assisting other departments such as health and education during awareness campaigns and special events. During her speech, the Minister also shared significant policy updates, including the government’s decision to increase marriage assistance and the development of a new policy to support the dependents of workers who pass away during their service.
The event concluded with the distribution of appointment orders to new recruits and certificates to children completing their pre-school education, alongside cultural performances focused on maternal and child nutrition.
