Punjab Police Upgrades Anti Narcotics Task Force Infrastructure to Fight Drug Networks
Punjab , June 9, 2026 — Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav visited the Anti Narcotics Task Force police station in SAS Nagar to inaugurate a series of modern technical and intelligence facilities designed to strengthen the state’s fight against drugs and organized narcotics networks.
The state police department is currently undertaking a major expansion and modernization of the task force across the state, utilizing the SAS Nagar hub which was initially opened in August 2024 to anchor anti-narcotics operations.
As part of a broader strategy to widen its operational footprint, the specialized agency has already operationalized state-of-the-art office complexes in Patiala, Jalandhar, and Bathinda.
Furthermore, new facilities are currently under construction in Ludhiana and Ferozepur, while plans for establishing a dedicated facility in Amritsar are actively progressing. This expanding network of specialized centers is intended to ensure a robust, statewide enforcement presence capable of tackling organized drug trafficking.
To transition toward a technology-driven enforcement framework, the state government invested 11.50 crore rupees annually during the last two fiscal years to upgrade surveillance systems, communication networks, cyber intelligence capabilities, and digital investigation tools across the task force headquarters and range offices.
An additional allocation of 14.16 crore rupees has been approved to further enhance technical capabilities. Police leadership reiterated its commitment to dismantling narcotics networks, disrupting supply chains, and securing a drug-free state through intelligence-led policing.
